a fresh-up in Mar Vista

Okay, no lies.. this was a tough one. The elderly owner of this home wanted to do no updating before putting it on the market, and had many pieces of furniture to leave in the home until the sale was over. We replaced most of the art and the bedding, removed all the knick knacks,switched out a few pieces of the furniture to more modern ones, styled the bookcases, and got her to pull the kelly green carpet, just to let buyers see the potential of the home.

I think we helped.

beverly hills adjacent....

This lovely house is in a pocket neighborhood near beverly hills, but the heavy traditional furnishing were dragging it down. We staged it with lighter, cleaner lines, added swoopy white drapes throughout, and gave it a beach house kind of feel, and I think it looks peaceful, refreshing, and desireable.

Beautiful bookshelves!

Every time I need to tidy up an existing or stage a new bookshelf, I study this photo for a bit, because it has so many wonderful elements of color, contrast, positive and negative space, and the element of surprise. I don't know what magazine I tore it out of, but well done!

vintage china...

We keep finding the most lovely sets of vintage china, but for some reason people seem to be afraid of using them for every day.We buy wonderful sets of vintage china at estate sales for far less than you can buy a set at a department store, and we USE it! We even put it in our dishwashers, and though it is true that in time some of the gold starts to fade, its after years of washings, and we mix it up and match it up for parties, and it adds a lot of color and personality,especially to modern homes.

Imagine how great all theses sets would look mixed up together!

color wars....

I was very unhappy when given this room to stage in this darling little condo in west hollywood, because I never would have painted a small dining room such an intense color, but now when I see how it turned out, it really works! We cut the red with a big piece of art, and kept everything else neutral, and blood red walls and all, this condo sold in one day!
